It was a wild day in the wheat market more so in the KC wheat and CBOT wheat which started the day down deep in the red but did manage to get its life figured out and finish higher while spring wheat just didn’t seem to follow along. Few things going on in the market, its month end so positions will get squared up along with spread positions.

My 2 Cents Aug 29/23
Markets were higher for the most part with the exception of wheat which is looking to be more of a side show at the moment with strength seen in corn and soybeans.

Markets have been bouncing around lately but really not gaining much if any. There was more attacks overnight on the Ukrainian port of Odesa while earlier in the week there was multiple attacks on both Odesa and a key port on the Danube which is crucial for Ukraine to move grain since the Black Sea route is out of the question for now.

Markets were under some heavy pressure more so from the results coming out of the Pro Farmer Tour that is showing decent yield estimates so far. Wheat was just basically following corn along for the ride and at one point was down heavy into the double digits but did manage to get some legs under it near the close.

Markets made a decent recovery last week especially on Friday as we headed into the weekend with increased tensions in the Black Sea and the Pro Farmer Tour coming up this week.

My 2 Cents Aug 16/23
Markets were under some heavy pressure as crop conditions rating came in higher than trade estimates for corn and beans which spilled over into the wheat market. We also have to take into account that there was also some big interest rate moves that shifted the currency trade around.

Pretty quiet day in the markets so to speak with oilseeds making some gains while wheat took a bit of a beating. Over the weekend there was reports of Russia firing warning shots at a civilian cargo ship which it later stopped and was inspected.

USDA report was out Friday which the market took as somewhat bearish as it was in the red basically all day. For wheat the USDA did cut yield back and increased harvested acres but also pulled demand back as well taking the carryout stocks a bit higher.

Markets were mixed and quiet yesterday as the market awaits the USDA WASDE report which will be out this morning. Canola was down a bit along with spring wheat but CBOT wheat and KC wheat did make some small gains.

US Markets were under heavy pressure Monday as Canada was on a holiday as weekend rains looked to somewhat help the US soybean crop. Soybeans took a big hit Monday and when canola opened Monday night it followed along and played catch up.

Markets were looking like they were going to make some decent gains at the start of the day trade but came off their highs with soybeans leading the way lower.

Markets were lower on Friday with what looked like mostly profit taking and a lack of headlines put traders in a risk off position going into the weekend. There was reports of more shelling of Ukraine port facilities but didn’t really push the market higher.

Markets were mostly higher Tuesday with the exception of spring wheat, it was almost like it wasn’t even trading as it spent the better part of the day sitting unchanged while its counter parts KC & CBOT made double digit gains.

Markets were mixed on Monday with corn and wheat lower while oilseeds were higher. Over the weekend Russia suspended their participation in the Black Sea deal which propped the market up on Sunday night but the day trade wrote that off pretty quick which put wheat lower following corn.

Markets made some decent gains after a bearish USDA report. Most would tell you that Thursdays gains were weather driven but that is only a small factor in the rally. The key component in the markets was the weakness in the USD. And with that weakness in the USD came talks of Chinese buyers coming in and buying up some soybeans which also added gas to the fire. Weaker USD supports US commodities and it makes them more competitive in the world market with the exception of R

It was a crazy day in the markets with the USDA WASDE report coming out along with the Bank of Canada raising interest rates by 0.25%. Looking at the USDA report which they reflected yields based on the new acreage numbers released end of June.
